A New Kind of Giving

Social Venture Partners Greater Tucson inspires and promotes philanthropy using a venture capital approach to affect positive social change. SVPGT combines the power of business with the passion of philanthropy to enhance philanthropic education and to invest in innovative nonprofit organizations. SVPGT uses a high-engagement model that pools the financial, professional and human resources of our partners to achieve long-term community impact and to build a culture of philanthropy. Building a dynamic connection between entrepreneurial energy and grassroots innovation, SVPGT links individuals with nonprofit organizations to make a hands-on difference

History

The concept of Social Venture Partners was the inspiration of former Aldus Corporation President Paul Brainerd in Seattle.

Helaine Levy, Executive Director, Diamond Family Philanthropies, and Steve Alley, CEO/President, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, worked for over two years to bring this model to Tucson.

A Way to Connect

The vision of the founders was to build a philanthropic community using a venture capital model, where Partners invest in innovative nonprofits, and then actively nurture their financial investments with guidance and resources. SVPGT is a way to engage in a new style of philanthropy that allows Partners to take an active role, as their schedules permit, in the recipients of their financial commitment.

In addition, SVPGT offers educational opportunities about philanthropy and community needs with the goal of becoming informed, effective, lifetime philanthropists.

Each Partner commits to a minimum tax deductible commitment of $5,000 annually for at least two years. Partners join an exciting network of like-minded individuals, with a wide range of experience in charitable giving, who decide together how to leverage their pool of expertise and money to support collaborative solutions to social challenges.

SVPGT is an affiliate of Social Venture Partners International www.svpi.org

A Strategic Investment in the Community

The partners of SVPGT initially will focus their investments in one area of great need in our community: literacy.
